A study of true American history will enlightened the reader to a direct correlation to Israel based on what America’s Founding Fathers faced when fleeing the tyranny of King George III as they sought a new life in what would become these “United States of America.”
Just as Moses stood against great odds to lead his fellow Hebrew slaves held in captivity in to a land that would yield them freedom from some 400 years of slave labor so, too, did George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and others flee under the guidance of God to a land that they would soon find out was also filled with milk and honey; a land that, through the toils of a relentless revolution, would build a strong union for all mankind to have the choice of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It would also begin an allied relationship rooted in the shared values of two nations. America’s early colonists equated their flight from religious tyranny to that of the Hebrews fleeing persecution in Egypt. Much of the internal governance of the colonies was based largely on Mosaic Law.
What role did Israel play in the visions of our Founding Fathers? After all, Israel was not a nation during the early colonists fight for independence. The Jews had been dispersed throughout the world seeking someday to return to the land God had promised to Abraham thousands of years ago.
Israel’s role, succinctly stated in an article from the Jewish Virtual Library, describes it this way. “The profound influence of Jewish tradition on America’s Founding Fathers can be seen in the Constitution of the United States. Such influence should come as no surprise given John Adams’ view expressed in a letter to Thomas Jefferson, ‘”I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize man than any nation.”’
The Jews also had a profound influence relating directly to the American Revolution. President Calvin Coolidge paid homage to their role in the War of Independence: “The Jews themselves, of whom a considerable number were already scattered throughout the colonies, were true to the teachings of their prophets. The Jewish faith is predominantly the faith of liberty.”
The United States has remained a superpower since “the shot that could be heard from around the world” was fired. Had our Founding Fathers not had the chance to draw upon the spiritual insights of the Bible and the influences of the Jewish people, the inscription “And Proclaim Freedom throughout the Land unto All the inhabitants thereof” (Leviticus 25:10) would have never been inscribed on the Liberty Bell.
Freedom and democracy are concepts drawn directly from the Hebrew Scriptures. Without the Word of God faithfully recorded and preserved by the Jews and shared with the world, America’s Founding Fathers would not have had the clarity of thought and vision or the fortitude to stand by their convictions as they labored to lay the groundwork and prepare the documents that would shape the United States of America according to the plan and that being to form ‘One Nation Under God.’
We, as Americans, owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Jewish people for their part in helping shape and give birth to the “land of the free and the home of the brave.” From the beginning, America has had strong ties to the Jewish people which, as history marched forward, progressed to form strong ties to the State of Israel. It is in the best interest of America to never forget these ties that bind. Except for Israel, all of the Middle East in a state of traumatic turmoil and somehow the world wants to place the blame on Israel. It is not only a matter of moral obligation that we stand united with God’s chosen but it is also a matter of self preservation. God says He will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. Any people or nation that puts pressure on Israel to act contrary to God’s Word by giving up land is, in essence, cursing Israel. America’s founding fathers knew the Bible and embraced this truth and thus America grew into a great and mighty nation. If only our present day leadership knew and wholly embraced the Word of God, our present circumstances, internally and internationally, would likely be very different. God save America.
